Sometimes the Loss is the Best Victory

Pictures provided Clif Reid
It was a great night for football. The weather was perfect and the stands were packed. Our Broncos battles against the Sulphur Tors. It was truly a defensive battle for an entire two quarters before the Tors put the first score on the board. Anyone could see both teams brought their best game to the field. In the end, the Tors won the right to claim the victory by two touchdowns.

However, I see the loss as a true victory for our boys. The team went into this battle with a 4 and 0 record. With that kind of record, the opponent was sure to talk a little bit too much about defeating the undefeated. So maybe they did, but what they didn't win was the character building this loss helped develop. They surely didn't win in sportsmanship with all their personal fouls they received Friday evening.

In my opinion, our Broncos came out stronger as a result. They were able to shed that undefeated burden off their back. Don't get me wrong... they would have LOVED the victory! However, I see a team who is willing to shut the door on this game and move on to the next one. I see a team who will learn from the mistakes and grow.

Sure we want the W, but sometimes football is about creating great character in a young man and teaching about life. That's the sweetest victory.

Making 'em Talk

Pictured by Rick Hickman

We're sure you've noticed! Everybody seems to be talking!

Have you seen that Sam Houston Bronco Offensive Line? Those are some big boys!!!! Averaging 300 lbs and 6'0", the boys throwing, receiving, or running the ball feel protected by the massive wall that make up the line. However, there is more to those boys then just their size.

Sure they're big, but those boys KNOW the game of football. They get the game plan on Monday. Test it out throughout the week. Watch film of their defensive opponent until they know the defensive strategy better than the opposing team does. Then they step on that field on Friday night and execute!

If you ask Dustin or Trevanti, they will simply tell you that they can only do what they do best, because their brothers plowing the way. If you ask the "HOGS', as they are endearing are called, they are doing what they do best for the team!

Yep! People are talking! Broncos Big Boys

Welcome to Bronco Country

The Broncos are going into their 2nd district game as an undefeated team. The buzzwords surrounding the boys in purple and gold seems to be "team", "maturity", and "intelligence". If you have witnessed just one game, you can only agree with what people are saying about the team.

Scoring an average of 42 per game. Average rushing yards has been close to 500.  Defense is only allowing an average of 14 points per game. With stats like this, there is a rumble among the Lake Area and the 3-5A district. Those Broncos are leaving them in shock and awe! Never underestimate the boys in purple and gold!

The Bronco Way

Pictures provided by Cliff Reid, Sr.
If you haven't witnessed it yourself, you can never understand when we say, "There's something about this team." The field is electrified. The air comes alive with the whisper of victory. There is just something. You can feel it.

Stronger than ever. Bonded through one dream. This team is ready. Ready for the battle that is before them. They have shed the old to make ways for the new age of Bronco Football. The boys of purple and gold are ready for the fight against the naysayers and those who says this team can't handle 5A ball.

In these last few days, we have seen just a taste of what this mighty stampede can do. With a defensive line who hungers for turnovers and an offensive line with size and strength, these Broncos can not be held back any longer. The corral can longer manage the stampede that has begun.

Welcome to the new age... Welcome to Bronco Country!

When Cleats Meet the Practice Field

Monday afternoon had finally arrived! The quiet fields of green were awakened by drills, plays, and shouts.  Wearing new purple helmets, the Bronco football team took to the practice field. To witness the talent and strength of these boys was nothing but energetic. There's just something about being among the boys in purple and gold.

It's all in preparation for a new season. It's all in preparation for May 18th when they play against the DeRidder Dragons in a spring game. It's all in preparation to be one team with one goal.

When these boys take that field in the upcoming season, no one will underestimate a boy in purple and gold. They're coming for a 5A title.

Sam Houston football players promote reading at local elementary schools

We are very proud of our Broncos as they spent time with the kids at Gillis Ementary and Moss Bluff Elementary.  The read books to the kids and helped promote good behavior.  Feedback from the teachers, kids, and parents was overwhelming.  This community outreach not only had a huge impact on the young students but also on our football players.

Here is KPLC's coverage of our "Reading with a Bronco" program.
